Friends of teen who committed suicide say they will get through this as a family

SPRING HILL, Fla - A candlelight vigil for a teenager who took her own life Sunday night is underway in Spring Hill.

Three hundred people are expected to turn out to remember Jessica Laney, 16.  Laney hanged herself Sunday night.

Friends and classmates believe online bullying is to blame for this tragedy.  They say people were leaving messages on the web site Ask.fm asking Laney why she hadn't killed herself yet.

She was also called fat, according to friends.

"I hope that everybody realizes that you can only take things to certain steps and they took it too far for her and they shouldn't have done what they did," said Selena Maria, Laney's friend. "They are going to regret losing such a wonderful girl."

Officials at Fivay High School, where Laney was a sophomore, told ABC Action News Laney never reported that she was being bullied.  Law enforcement officers also said their investigation hasn't turned up any proof Laney was being bullied online.

"She didn't tell anyone because she didn't think they'd care," said Jenna, a close friend.

Laney will be laid to rest Saturday.  A gathering will be held at Dobies Funeral Home at 9944 Hudson Avenue in Hudson from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  A service will be held at 1 p.m.

Laney is survived by her parents and older brother.
