Deputies are searching for thieves targeting VFW's and American Legions in search of cash.

In the past 2 months, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said they have had 5 burglaries throughout the county.

"We're having so many of them now that it's almost at least one a week," Public Information Officer Melanie Snow said.

Deputies believe the same thieves may be linked to all of the burglaries. They also believe they may be linked to other crimes in the area as well, including VFW/American Legion burglaries in two other counties.

"We believe they're targeting VFW's because VFW's typically have cash," Snow said.

The latest VFW burglarized was Thursday morning at the VFW in Hudson.

"They didn't do anything to help this country. They're hurting the country. Stay out of my house," Kimmie Dawson said.

Dawson is the canteen manager at the VFW Post 4412. She hopes the thieves are caught soon. She said luckily they did not get away with anything.

"I don't know if they really know what it means….what a Veterans of Foreign Hall means to the community and to the Veterans that come in it and we serve everyday. This is sacred ground," Dawson said.
