Body camera video from the Pasco Sheriff’s office shows the moment a deputy picked up a scared 18-month old boy and took him to safety.

“Hey, it’s ok,” the deputy said to the crying child.

That child and a 6-year old girl, still in her pajamas, were caught in the middle of a violent confrontation at a home in Wesley Chapel Tuesday night.

Deputies were checking on Travis Connolly after an argument in the house, but they said he was drunk and armed with a loaded gun.

They said he was threatening to shoot and using the two kids as protection.

In the body camera video, you can hear deputies fire non-lethal bean bag rounds at Connolly.

They hit him him three times in the back and he finally gave up, giving deputies a chance to get the kids out of the house.

“That was their sole priority, once the person was in custody, to get the minor children away from the situation over to a safe place so they could calm down,” said detective William Wood.

Connolly did not go quietly.

Investigators said he even bit one of the deputies on the arm.

But as they brought him to the hospital, he denied it.

“I ain’t bite nothing you liar,” Connolly screamed on the video.

Meanwhile, deputies worked to calm down the two children.

“When it’s in the moment like that and obviously from watching the video. Just to see there reactions how upset and scared they were. It take a little bit of a toll on you,” said Wood.

No one was hurt in all this.

Connolly is facing a list of charges including child abuse, battery on a law enforcement officer and domestic battery.
