PALM HARBOR, Fla. - Authorities are investigating a fatal overnight traffic crash that temporarily shut down southbound US Highway 19 in Palm Harbor.
The accident occurred just south of Alderman Road around 2 a.m. The southbound lanes were closed until just after 7:00 a.m.
One person was confirmed dead and two others were injured.. The Florida Highway Patrol is working at the scene.
According to the FHP, an SUV was out of a parking lot onto US 19 when it was hit by a Ford Crown Victoria traveling at a high rate of speed.
The SUV was pushed about 100 feet into a ditch. A third vehicle slammed into the Crown Victoria.
The driver of the SUV died at the scene. The two other crash victims were transported by helicopter.
No names were immediately released.
