Oldsmar water leak discovered by resident riding a dirt bike

OLDSMAR, Fla. - Residents and businesses in the Oldsmar area experiencing low or no water pressure have hope of service restoration, according to the city.

According to officials, an 8-inch pipe leak was discovered by a man who was riding a dirt bike, and has lived in Oldsmar for 30 years.

He found it at 4020 Tampa Road, in a canal next to a business park located at 580 Corporate Center.

Utility crews are currently working to fix the pipe and restore water service.

The reclaimed water distribution system is a separate system and is fully functional.  Reclaimed water is only for irrigation and fire suppression.  Do not drink reclaimed water.  When water pressure resumes, a Citywide Precautionary Boil Water Notice will be issued.

Local agencies are ready to help the City if needed.  A 5,000 gallon tanker is stationed to help suppress any fires not located near reclaimed water hydrants.

The City's website, http://www.myoldsmar.com , Facebook and Twitter are being updated as the situation changes.  The City issued a phone notification using the Code Red system.  City personnel are manning the main number to help answer questions 813-749-1100.
