Man in pirate costume accidentally stabbed with his own knife at Dunedin Mardi Gras Celebration

DUNEDIN, Fla. - A man dressed as a pirate at Dunedin's Mardi Gras celebration was reportedly stabbed with a knife that was a part of his costume about 9:15 Tuesday night, according to a Pinellas County Sheriff's Office report.

Investigators say the stabbing appears to have been an accident.

Robert Casey, 56, of Madeira Beach was dressed like a pirate and posing for pictures at the celebration on Main Street and the Pinellas Trail with a group of teens he didn't know, authorities say.

Casey had a knife in a scabbard as a part of his costume and preliminary information indicates that one of the teens grabbed it and posed for the photo pointing the knife towards the pirate.

Someone then noticed Casey was bleeding on his shirt and called for help.

He was flown to Bayfront Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Deputies say the incident appears to be an accident, however they would like to speak to the teen in question.

He is described as a 6 feet tall, white male wearing a white t-shirt and flashing pink glasses.

The investigation is ongoing.
