CLEARWATER, Fla. - Police say an argument between a husband and wife turned violent when he punched her in the head and then beat her with a baseball bat while she was lying on the floor.
Jamel Lee Williams, 35, is now charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
According to a police statement, the crime occurred shortly after midnight on December 1 at the Pleasant Inn on North Fort Harrison Avenue.
Williams' wife did not report the attack until the next day when she went to a hospital to be treated for injuries to her head and upper body.
She told investigators she didn't say anything at first because she feared for her safety.
In addition to battery, Williams is charged with violation of probation.
