An elderly driver suffered minor injuries Tuesday afternoon when the car he was driving slammed through the front doors of a pawn shop on Drew Street.
He suffered minor cuts and was taken to Mease Countryside Hospital. A passenger in the vehicle with him was not injured.
The crash happened around 1:45 p.m. at Quick Cash Pawn, 1735 Drew St. The store owner, who was inside at the time, was not injured.
The entire car, a Cadillac, was inside the store when Clearwater police and firefighters arrived on the scene.
Authorities believe the man hit the gas pedal instead of the brake as he prepared to park in the lot there.
Officials from the City of Clearwater building department also were on scene, and firefighters used a large jack to stabilize the front of the store until permanent repairs could be made.
