Motorcyclist thrown from bike, killed near Himes Avenue

TAMPA - A man his dead after an early morning motorcycle crash Hillsborough Sheriff deputies say.

Gabriel Rivera, 29, was riding his motorcycle around 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning when he crashed into a Honda Accord at Himes Avenue and Hamilton Street.

Rivera was headed up Himes Avenue when he crossed the double-yellow lined roadway to pass the car in front of him. When he went to pass the Honda, Rivera hit the back of the car as the driver started to slow down to make a turn.

Rivera was thrown from his bike and hit the glass enclosure around a HART bus stop.

He was not wearing a helmet and died after being taken to a local hospital.

Deputies believe drugs and/or alcohol may have contributed to the crash.

Both drivers were believed to have been coming from night clubs.
