CARROLLWOOD - Several Carrollwood residents are expected to come out Monday morning at 7:30 to protest a new WalMart and WaWa convenience store that is planned for a location at the intersection of Dale Mabry Highway and Floyd Road.
This demonstration is one of several protests that CARe, (Carrollwood Against Rezoning) organized over the last few weeks in hopes of stopping what they call "big box retailers" from impeding their quality of life.( http://bit.ly/Q1hCpt)
The group is hoping to raise awareness with this morning's protest to help "Pack The Room", their effort to get as many protesters at tonight's Hillsborough land-use hearing as possible.
The CARe group has met with developers on two occasions to express their concerns about a new WalMart, which include heightened traffic that could will further clog what they refer to as "failed roadways" and the fact there are already three WalMarts and a SAM's club within a four-mile radius.
The hearing, which has been postponed three times, is scheduled October 15 at 6:00 p.m.
The hearing will be held in the Second Floor Board Room of the County Center at 601 E. Kennedy Boulevard.
The CARe organizers are asking that people who oppose the WalMart/WaWa construction show up by 5:00 p.m. and wear the color red to show support.
