Sex offender has lurid criminal past in Georgia

Myers convicted of sex crime against child in 1999

TAMPA, Fla. - Steven Patrick Myers was convicted and sentenced to 15 years in prison in Forsyth County, Ga., for sexually assaulting a 7-year-old relative in 1999.

Myers only served five years for the sex crime and has been in and out of jail ever since, deputies said.

ABC Action News has also learned more about the connection between Myers and 16-year-old Ashley Lyon.

Homeowners in the teenager's Valrico neighborhood said Myers' ex-wife had a house within walking distance of Lyon's home.

Neighbors who spoke to ABC Action News off camera say Myers spent a lot of time at his ex-wife's home with their two teenage boys and they knew Lyons.

Georgia deputies said Myers violated probation three times after getting out of jail on his first offense and was sent back to jail.

He served a two-year sentence that lasted from 2010 to 2012.

According to online records, Myers registered as a sex offender in Florida well before that in 2004.
