VALRICO, Fla. — Hillsborough County deputies block off an intersection after a hole about the size of a car opened up near the Bloomingdale subdivision.

Deputies stopped traffic at the intersection of Natures Way and Elm Grove Lane in Valrico.

Hillsborough County Road Maintenance had crews on scene to evaluate the next step to fix the road. Crews said a broken sewer pipe caused the road to collapse.

"I'm just glad nobody drove into it in the middle of the night," said neighbor Mark Hayhurst.

County crews were out on Friday with trucks and heavy pipes. They will stabilize it and make needed repairs. They put up a plastic fence to keep people away from the depression in the street.

It could take as much as a week to fix the road.

"I think it scares anybody knowing the road could just give on you," said Ivette Turner, neighbor.

The intersection remains closed.
