Police: Pharmacist beaten during drug store robbery

TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - A pharmacist is in critical condition at Tampa General Hospital after being brutally beaten during a robbery at a drug store in Temple Terrace.

According to Temple Terrace police spokesman Michael Dunn, the Omega Drugs Pharmacy on 56th Street was robbed around 8 p.m. Saturday.

The suspect, believed to be a man in his late twenties, came up from behind and attacked the pharmacist, catching him by surprise.

The suspect beat the pharmacist several times, and demanded drugs.

It is unclear what kind of prescriptions the suspect was able to steal, but it was only a small quantity.

After the man fled from the pharmacy, the victim was able to call police for help.  He was found bleeding from multiple injuries.

Police are not releasing the identity of the pharmacist at this time.

No weapon was used in the attack, according to police.
