Hillsborough County deputies are investigating a series of car break-ins at a Brandon park. Several cars had their windows smashed and items were stolen from inside.

Busted out windows and piles of broken glass are what Josh Adams and his family walked up to as they left a baby shower at Clayton Park in Brandon Sunday night.

"It was a family event. We were there to support someone having a baby and they obviously targeted cars that had baby stuff inside of it. So it was pretty heartbreaking and sad," Adams said.

A lot of times thieves will jiggle door handles looking for unlocked cars. But in this case, his vehicle and three others had their windows smashed and several items stolen from inside.

Deputies are still investigating, but some of the victims here think the suspect might've used a device that's designed to quickly punch a hole in your window to get out during an emergency.

"It looked like it was because all the tempered glass was completely shattered. So it wasn't like they were just punching through it," said Adams.

And it turns out this isn't the first time this has happened. Several vehicles were broken into the same way at the same Brandon park about three weeks ago. Deputies are looking at neighboring surveillance cameras hoping to track down who's responsible.

"I wish something would get done about it because you know families go there with their kids intending on having a good time and think things are safe and it's not that way," said Adams.

The break-ins here are a good reminder to keep your valuables with you or out of sight in your locked car.
