CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. - The Citrus County School District has opened up an investigation to see if one of their employees was involved in the viral video of two women allegedly stealing a beachgoer's belongings.
As of Thursday night, the YouTube video had been viewed more than 6.4 million times.
The video, taken over the July Fourth weekend at New Smyrna Beach, shows a cameraman confront two women whom he tells are disassembling his family's beach canopy. They appear to act as if they mistook it for their own. The encounter quickly turns confrontational when they realize he is filming them.
In regards to one of the women involved being a school district employee, Citrus County Schools released the following statement: "The human resources department is looking into the matter and the district cannot comment on an open investigation."
In an interview with Gawker, the cameraman said that since nothing was actually taken he didn't feel the incident warranted filing a police report or pressing charges.
