Two arrested and charged with child abuse in Citrus County

CITRUS Co., Fla. - A Citrus County couple has been arrested and charged with aggravated child neglect.

According to a release from the Citrus County Sheriff's Department, Gerald Williams, 23, and Peggy Wood, 21, are being held at the Citrus County Detention Facility.

Wood is also charged with a second count of child abuse for inflicting physical injury on an infant.

Wood is accused of abusing her 5 week old child.  According to the release, Wood caused head trauma which resulted in bleeding on the victim's brain, retinal hemorrhaging, multiple rib fractures and leg fractures.

The child is being treated at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg.

Williams is charged with neglect on a one year old child.  According to the Sheriff's Department release, Williams left the victim in a urine soaked crib for an unknown amount of time.  Investigators also said Williams blared music to drown out the baby's cries for attention.

A judge ruled that Williams and Wood are flight risks and denied their bond.
