The Hernando County Sheriff's Office arrested a Spring Hill man after he reportedly attacked another man on a riding lawn mower with a walking cane on Tuesday, August 16.

John Cash, 59, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery and he remains in the Hernando County Jail with a $5,000 bond.

On Tuesday, deputies responded to 7289 Lindhurst Street in Spring Hill in reference to a battery.

The victim, George Policastro, told deputies he was mowing his lawn on Lindhurst Street and at the same time, Cash was standing in the road in front of the property. As he was turning his lawn mower back around, Cash started hitting him repeatedly on his back and his left arm with a walking cane.

Policastro told deputies that he got off of his mower and punched Cash in the face to defend himself.

Cash told deputies that his foot was run over by the lawn mower and that Policastro tried to take his walking cane away from him and that's when the fight started.

Deputies spoke to a witness who said he saw Cash hitting Policastro multiple times with the walking cane as Policastro was backing away from him. He also saw Policastro punch the man to get away from him.

Cash was arrested for intentionally hitting the victim against his will and for using the walking cane as a deadly weapon.

Cash was given a court date of 9/6/2016 at 1:15 p.m.
