Southbound lanes of Suncoast Parkway in Hernando reopened after flooding from Tropical Storm Debby

HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. - The southbound lanes of the Suncoast Parkway in Hernando County were reopened to traffic Wednesday morning after being closed for a week due to flooding from Tropical Storm Debby.

The northbound lanes from SR-50 to SR-700 (US-98) remain closed.  Crews were expected to continue working throughout Wednesday in effort to ready the northbound lanes for traffic.

The most recent statement from Department of Transportation indicated the northbound lanes would not be open any earlier than Friday.  However, the southbound lanes opened earlier than expected and that could be true for the northbound lanes.

abcactionnews.com will have updates as information becomes available.

Debby dumped more than a foor of rain throughout the region.

On Tuesday, President Obama declared Pasco County, along with Baker, Bradford, Columbia and Wakulla counties--major disaster areas due to heavy flooding.
