BROOKSVILLE, Fla. - Deputies responded to the scene of a reported shooting in Brooksville Tuesday afternoon.
The shooting occurred in the area of Maycrest Avenue and Fulmar Road around 3 p.m.
According to preliminary information from the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, a 55-year-old woman was being beaten by her younger 30-year-old boyfriend when she produced a gun and shot him. The woman, Diana Adams, called 911 to report what happened.
The boyfriend, identified as Kevin Rooks, was airlifted to a trauma center. There was no immediate word on his condition.
The woman and her two adult who also lived in the home, were taken to a hospital with conditions that may have been stress-related, according to a statement.
As of late Tuesday afternoon, no charges had been filed and the investigation was ongoing .
Neighbors who knew the couple say they had a history of domestic violence.
"They've been having problems," said Frank Michali, neighbor. "They had the police there several times. She would lock him out of the house in his underpants and they always was having all kinds of problems"
A background check on Rooks revealed he was arrested for battery in August.
ABC Action News did request the 911 call. However, the Sheriff's Office said because it is part of an ongoing investigation they cannot release the call at this time.
Because the woman is alleged to be a victim of domestic violence, we are not identifying her.
