The Hernando County Mosquito Control is warning residents to cover up and wear repellent due to a mosquito outbreak after Hurricane Irma.

On Tuesday, September 26 they shared photos of thousands of mosquitoes caught in a trap that normally catches around 500 mosquitoes this time of year.

The trap netted approximately 26,000 mosquitoes from 3 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Friday in the Ridge Manor area just east of 301 and north of the Pasco County line. Ten different species of mosquitoes were caught (both daytime and nighttime biters).

The large amount of the mosquitoes prompted officials to do an aerial spray for all areas east of the Suncoast Parkway.
