CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. - Purchasing alcohol on Sunday morning is no longer off limits to Citrus County residents.
Before the new rule change, it was illegal to sell alcohol until 1 p.m. under the previous county law.
The reasoning behind the law amendment was to make the prohibition times on sales of alcohol the same every day - from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m., allowing for more business and convenience on Sundays.
Tourism industry members also added that changing the law would help retain visitors who would otherwise take their business to another county to buy alcoholic beverages.
According to the county, once the change goes to Tallahassee for acknowledgment, the public will be able to purchase alcoholic beverages by scallop season, which begins June 25.
The change applies to the unincorporated county, not the cities of Crystal River and Inverness, which have their own jurisdiction over the sales times.
