Hernando deputy shot 'aggressive' man after claims of arson

Deputies shot a man Thursday morning after responding to a Brooksville caller who said he set a home on fire, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.
The deputies responded to the home on California Street after a man called saying he was being evicted and was setting the residence on fire.
When deputies arrived, they found James Quenton Palmer, 50, in an extremely aggressive state, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The situation escalated and deputies said they were forced to shoot Palmer.
Palmer was airlifted to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries. According to deputies, he died from his injuries just after 8 a.m.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) will review the use of deadly force and will now take over this investigation.
