A 27-year-old man was taken into custody Monday after a standoff with Hernando County deputies, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Andrew Raymond Vaughn-Elliott barricaded himself in a shed for about two hours while deputies tried to coax him out, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies began investigating after Vaughn-Elliott’s mother arrived at Bayfront Health’s emergency room with a severe cut to her head, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies went to 6387 Raley Road in Brooksville about 2:20 p.m. and found Vaughn-Elliott.
Claiming to have a handgun, he climbed onto the roof of the home, deputies said. He then moved into a shed on the property, barricading himself inside.
Deputies began negotiating with Vaughn-Elliott, deputies said, during which he told them he wanted to commit “suicide by cop.”
At 5 p.m., deputies and a canine team entered the shed. Vaughn-Elliott, who was armed with a handgun, deputies said, was taken into custody with the use of a Taser and canine.
He was taken to Bayfront Health for treatment for dog bites.
