A house sitter is accused of stealing belongings from a 72-year-old woman and pawning them while she was hospitalized, Citrus County deputies say.

Brandy Maynard, 38, of 4820 W. Sanction Road in Lecanto, is charged with four counts of trafficking or endeavoring in stolen property, three counts of theft from a person 65 years of age or older, one count of grand theft and four counts of false verification of ownership/identification to a pawnbroker.

According to deputies, they were called to a home in the 800 block of North Maynard Avenue in Lecanto on May 2. The homeowner reported missing jewelry and belongings.

The homeowner had reportedly been hospitalized for the past several weeks and had just returned home.

According to the homeowner, she had allowed Maynard to stay at her home during her hospitalization.

The woman reported multiple pieces of missing jewelry including a wedding band with a diamond.

The total value of the missing jewelry was estimated at $2,000, deputies noted.

Deputies say Maynard was never given permission to take nor sell the items.

Deputies searched through Maynard's recent pawn transactions which revealed five transactions since January 2016, including one where the victim's wedding ring was pawned for a mere $25.00, an arrest affidavit states.

An arrest affidavit also states most of the victim's other missing items were pawned for $50.00 or less.

Maynard is being held on $20,000 bond.
