HERNANDO, Fla. - Take a walk down Julia Way in Hernando and you will hear neighbors talking about the 2-year-old girl who was murdered there Friday.
"She didn't deserve death," said Renee Dranberg, a neighbor.
Citrus County Sheriff's deputies will only say they were called out to 1605 Julia Way Friday morning and found Aliyah Marie Branum "in distress."
"The ambulance left and within a few minutes they had the street roped off here and crime scene tape around it," Dranberg recalled.
Aliyah was pronounced dead at the hospital. The coroner reports that she died as a result of excessive trauma.
Deputies are now trying figure out who hurt the little girl and why.
Neighbors told ABC Action News a couple lived in the home with their two little girls but that a pregnant female had been spotted at the home in the past several weeks. They identified that woman as Aliyah's mother Chelsea Huggett.
It is not clear if Huggett lived at the home or was just visiting on occasion.
"I never saw the little girl outside playing," Dranberg said.
When ABC Action News knocked on the door of the home, no one answered.
We did track Huggett to her parents' home, but the family declined to comment. However, Huggett and her family are being very vocal online about Aliyah's death.
A memorial slideshow set to music was posted to YouTube and the Facebook page RIP Aliyah Marie was created. On the page the family wrote," This page is for family and friends to grieve and remember a beautiful little girl that we lost way too early."
Deputies are not answering any questions about the case. They won't even say if they have a person of interest or if they've made an arrest.
