Missing jet skiers from Hernando found

HERNANDO COUNTY - The Coast Guard along with Hernando law enforcement agencies found two missing 22-year-old men who disappeared after going jet skiing Sunday night in Hernando County.

They are in stable condition, both with a minor case of hyperthermia, officials say.

The men headed out for a two-hour Jet Ski trip at about 6 p.m. Sunday, but never returned.

They were going on a jet ski they recently purchased to look for a chum bucket that had previously fallen off a boat.

The girlfriend to one of the men alerted authorities, telling them the two men left on a purple jet ski from a private dock in Pine Island. It was also reported that the men didn't have lights, flares, a radio or a cell phone, they only had life jackets and a whistle.

The U.S. Coast Guard along with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Hernando Sheriff's Office and the Coast guard launched an extensive search effort.

Two boats and a helicopter were used to help locate them.

The men were found 7 a.m. Monday and were treated by an emergency crew as soon as they landed in Clearwater.
