Citrus County deputies say a local store owner was recorded selling synthetic marijuana

CITRUS COUNTY, Fla - A Hernando store owner is accused of selling synthetic marijuana at her discount tobacco store.

Marie Mako, 54, of 221 W. Quincy Street, Hernando, is charged with selling a controlled substance, a felony.

Citrus County deputies say received a tip that narcotic deals were being conducted at Discount Tobacco located off North Florida Avenue in Hernando.

An arrest report states an undercover officer, outfitted with a recording device, reportedly bought a package of synthetic marijuana and rolling papers from Mako for $30.

Under Florida law, synthetic marijuana is a controlled substance and illegal to sell.

The transaction took place on June 12.

On Thursday, a search warrant was executed at the store and Mako was arrested.

Mako is being held on $5,000 bond.
