Citrus County deputies say a couple caused more than $2K in damage when they drove on a golf course

CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. - Citrus County deputies say a couple caused more than $2K in damage when they intentionally drove on a golf course and stole marker flags.

Shannon Liepke, 21, and Jason Bowman, 20, were arrested around 6 a.m. Friday near Lakeside Country Club located at 4555 East Windmill Drive in Inverness.

Each are facing criminal mischief and theft charges.

Deputies say they were called to the country club around 4 a.m. after there were reports of a green car driving on the fairways and greens of the golf course.  As they arrived, deputies spotted a green car riddled with mud and grass leaving the area.

Deputies pulled the car over and they say Bowman was driving and Liepke was in the passenger seat. When questioned, Bowman reportedly told deputies he drove on the fairways and stole four golf course green flags.

An arrest report states a maintenance worker found tire and rut marks near hole six and similar damage on the fairway near hole three.

Damage is estimated to be at least $2,000.

In addition, deputies say they found the flags in Bowman's car.  They are valued at $50 a piece.

Both Bowman and Liepke were arrested.

They are being held on $1,500 bond.
