CITRUS COUNTY, Fla - Citrus County deputies say a man spanked a 12-year-old boy so severely half the child's buttocks and part of the child's hip were black with bruises.
Nathan Rucker, of Hernando, is now facing child abuse charges.
An arrest affidavit states Rucker thought the child took 50 cents from him and became enraged.
Deputies say they were tipped off about the incident when someone called in a tip to the Abuse Hotline on November 11.
Photographs taken of the boy's injuries reportedly show a bruise in the shape of a hand print on his buttocks, according to an arrest affidavit.
The arrest affidavit states the boy told authorities he was "beat up" by Rucker because Rucker discovered 50 cents was taken out of a jar. According to the boy, his younger sibling took the money but Rucker did not believe him.
The victim advised authorities that Rucker bent him over and spanked him five or six times while other family members watched, deputies say. Then, the boy says Rucker returned later and spanked him again.
According to deputies, the boy reported his buttocks was so swollen he could not sit down and that when he told Rucker his buttocks hurt Rucker replied, "Haha, that's what you get."
Deputies say the victim revealed Rucker drinks alcohol every night until he passes out and Rucker typically whips him as a form of punishment.
Rucker apparently admitted to spanking the boy multiple times in one day. However, he explained the boy threw a tantrum for two hours and this resulted in three separate spankings, an affidavit states.
Rucker expressed remorse, deputies say.
He was booked into the Citrus County Jail and is being held on $5,000 bond.
