Brooksville Police say a boyfriend became enraged when a man groped his girlfriend and beat him up

BROOKSVILLE, Fla - Police say a Brooksville man learned a tough lesson: you do not touch Albert Gardner's girlfriend.

Police say Robert Ward, 33,  did just that and ended up punched in the face several times Saturday night.

Officers patrolling in the area of E. Fort Dade Avenue and Oakland Avenue found Ward laying in a yard, heavily intoxicated and bleeding from his face.

Paramedics called to the scene to check his injuries.  According to an arrest report, while a paramedic checked Ward, he refused to put down a lit cigarette.

The paramedic reportedly tried to remove the cigarette from Ward's hand, at which time Ward allegedly punched the paramedic in the chest.

Officers say through their investigation, they learned Ward had touched a female in inappropriate places several times.

These actions, according to police, made the woman's boyfriend, Albert Gardner, 19, mad.

Gardner confronted Ward and punched him several times in the face and head, an arrest report states.

Ward was charged with two counts of battery.  He was taken to the Hernando County jail and is being held on $10,000 bond.

Gardner was also charged with battery and given a $500 bond.
