What was once the best fishing spot and most beautiful lake in Hernando County has become so overgrown by vegetation that you could hardly get a boat on it. But the county is fixing that.

Islands of vegetation nearly two feet thick have overtaken Hunters Lake making it nearly impossible for people to enjoy.

Now Hernando County has invested $150,000 into cleaning up lake.

Big boats called "Harvesters" made specifically for this are on the lake scooping up the more than 14 acres of the floating vegetation called "Tussocks."

People who live on the lake like Jack Kunz are thrilled by the cleanup.

"This is probably the most exciting thing that's happened here in 14 years except for a few people when they catch big bass out of here which doesn’t happen anymore," he said.

But the county says this 4-week cleanup project should fix that and help make the lake beautiful and full of fish once again.
