PARRISH, Fla. - Robert Jordan, 64, was originally referred for prosecution after deputies with Manatee County found two pot plants and about 20 seedlings on his property in Parrish back in February.
Jordan said he was growing the marijuana solely for his wife, Cathy. The state attorney's investigation has confirmed that. Cathy suffers from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, better known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Cathy is in her 60s, and confined to a wheelchair. Cathy smokes pot daily to relieve her symptoms.
Robert and Cathy have been lobbying in Tallahassee to legalize medical marijuana. Eighteen states have passed medical marijuana laws, but Florida has not.
Assistant state attorney Brian A. Iten announced that no action will be taken on charges.
