Robert W. Melton, CPA worked for nine years as Inspector General for the Pinellas County Office of the Clerk of Circuit Courts.
During that time, he identified problems of fraud, exploitation and abuse in the county's professional guardianship program.
Melton implemented a stringent auditing program at that time, which required every ward's account to undergo a financial audit every year.
He has become a vocal critic of the professional guardian system in Florida, saying there is not sufficient transparency and oversight to protect the best interests of wards.
During a speech he made to Eckerd Law School, Melton outlined what he coined the "10 Dirty Tricks of Guardians".
Melton is currently the Auditor for the Lake County Clerk of Courts.
