Soldier Terry Achane to reunite with 2-year-old daughter who was adopted against his will

SOUTH CAROLINA - A soldier will be reunited with his 21-month-old daughter after she was adopted by a Utah family without his knowledge or consent two years ago.

Terry Achane, 31, learned that his estranged wife, Tira Bland, gave up the child, Teleah, for adoption while he was on duty in South Carolina working as a U.S. Army drill instructor, according to an ABC News report.

The couple had been having problems and Achane initially thought Bland may have had an abortion.

Achane's lawyer said he only learned the truth several weeks after Teleah was born, and by that point, the child was with Jared and Kristi Frei, her new adoptive parents.

When Achane contacted the agency that handled the adoption, he was denied information.

Judge Darold McDade said the Adoption Center of Choice agency ignored the fact that Achane didn't consent to the adoption and their behavior was "utterly indefensible".

The Freis, who raised Achane's baby as their own for nearly two years, have been ordered by the judge to return the 21-month old to his father within the next 60 days.

The couple says Teleah is their baby and claims Achane abandoned his wife without any means of caring for the child.
