Republican Chris Christie re-elected governor of New Jersey, De Blasio elected NYC mayor

ASBURY PARK, N.J. - Democrat Barbara Buono has conceded the New Jersey governor's race to incumbent Chris Christie.

Speaking about 40 minutes after polls closed Tuesday, Buono told her supporters she had called Christie to congratulate him.

Christie is seen as a possible 2016 presidential contender. He is ahead 62 percent to 36 percent with 18 percent of precincts reporting.

In New York City, Democrat Bill De Blasio will be the city's new mayor, the New York Times reports. He defeated Republic opponent Joseph J. Lhota by a wide margin.

De Blasio replaces incumbent Michael Bllomberg.
