Introducing the FRORK: Local McDonald's giving away viral fry-fork hybrid on Friday

It's not a spork or a foon, it's a french fry fork

What's the difference between a spork and a frork? The spork is necessary and awesome, the frork, totally unnecessary but still pretty awesome. McDonald's has turned the 'frork' into a viral sensation and TV's greatest pitchman, Anthony Sullivan, is behind it.

"Anthony Sullivan here," said Anthony Sullivan. "Will the Frork change your life? Probably not. Will the Frork improve your Signature Crafted Recipes eating experience? I mean, sure maybe!"

McDonald’s is touting the new french fry-centric utensil — the “frork” — as part of a campaign to promote its new line of burgers.

The chain says the utensil has an opening where people can insert some fries, which act as edible tines. McDonald’s says it will give away 100,000 of them to people who buy the new burgers starting May 5. It’s the latest push by McDonald’s Corp. to drum up excitement and get people into its restaurants, after four years of declining customer transactions in the United States.

The stunt is intended to draw attention to the chain’s new “Signature Crafted Recipes.” McDonald’s calls the utensil “edible, utilitarian and desperately innovative,” but also “superfluous.” It made a mock infomercial that it posted online.

Anthony Sullivan will be making a one-time appearance at the McDonald's located at 1905 N. Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday. You can show up and score a free FRORK with purchase, plus you can meet and take photos with Anthony.

The new Signature Crafted Recipes Sandwiches include Pico Guacamole, Sweet BBQ Bacon and Maple Bacon Dijon.
