Lawmakers: Islamic State group wants to hit US

Lawmakers are warning that the United States and Western Europe are likely to be future targets of Islamic State militants.

They say President Barack Obama needs to take action.

Without offering specifics on threats or suggestions on how to confront them, the leaders of intelligence committees in the Senate and House are sharing a dire warning about the Islamic State group. Those fighters now control vast swaths of Syria and Iraq, have killed civilians from that region and beheaded American journalist James Foley.

Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California leads the Senate intelligence panel. She says Islamic State fighters want to, quote, "kill with abandon."

And the House Intelligence Committee Chairman, Republican Rep. Mike Rogers of Michigan, says the group might use Americans to strike inside the U.S.
