A Florida teen was arrested after deputies say he killed his mother on her birthday.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said they arrested Joshua Carmona, 18, and charged him with first degree murder. Investigators said Carmona used a baseball bat and a knife to kill his mother, Tahirih Lua D'Angelo, inside her Riverview, Florida home.

According to investigators, they were called to a residence on Hawthorne Trace Lane just after 4 p.m. local time on Monday, where they found 39-year-old D'Angelo dead.

Officials stated that preliminary details indicate her killing was not a random act.

According to D'Angelo's Facebook page, she bought the home last year, and lived there with her husband and daughter. According to records, Carmona also lived in the home.

Neighbors told Tampa's WFTS that D'Angelo liked to walk her dog around the neighborhood.

"We've been friendly to each other and something like this happens, it's scary," neighbor Judy Wimbley said. "I've tried to think if I heard anything today. I didn't hear anything unusual. So, it's kind of heartbreaking."

Detectives said they had no history of responding to the home for any calls.

D'Angelo suffered trauma to her upper body.

A family member conducting a welfare check on D'Angelo found her dead inside the home just after 4 p.m. Monday afternoon, on her birthday.

Deputies continue to investigate the incident.
