AMBER ALERT CANCELED: 8-year-old Tulsa girl found safe, suspect in custody

TULSA - Tulsa police canceled an Amber Alert early Monday morning after finding an 8-year-old girl safe in Sapulpa and arresting her suspected abductor.

Witnesses say a man snatched Monserrat Aguirre from a playground at an east Tulsa apartment complex Sunday evening.

Around 11:15 p.m. someone spotted a suspicious man buying girl's clothing at a Dollar General store in Creek County and called police.

That tip helped police identify 33-year-old Michael Slatton, a registered sex offender, as a person of interest.

At one point, Sapulpa police tried to make contact with him but say he fought with them and ran.

That's when the Northern Oklahoma Violent Crimes Task Force got involved.  They eventually spotted him driving away from a wooded area in Sapulpa and arrested him.

Aguirre was found nearby and has been reunited with her family.

Slatton was booked into the Tulsa County Jail on $50,000 for kidnapping after a prior felony conviction.  Police say additional complaints will be filed.
