Clearwater police said around 4 p.m. they tried to pull over a man wanted in this week's robberies of a Dollar General and a Family Dollar store. Police said in each robbery, the suspect carried a machete and in the second robbery, which occurred on Tuesday, he lunged at the clerk and cut her. Police were concerned that the suspect's level of aggression was increasing.

The suspect fled when police tried to pull him over and crashed, flipping his car near Palmetto St. and Casler Ave. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The suspect's name has not yet been released.
