TAMPA, FL -- Work at home opportunities are a dime a dozen on the internet. But finding one that's legit is another story. We have five red flags you need be aware of if you're looking to work from home.

Laurie Beninati says she's done with the “9 to 5” that comes with traditional jobs but, she still wants to earn extra money.

"I have teen age children and I have to think about college also the economy right now," Beninati says.

That's why she's looking for job she can do at home. "Work from home, you see it on the internet, you see it in the newspaper," she says.

But, when Beninati opened the websites and read the fine print, she stopped her search dead in its tracks. Many of the jobs she found were asking for cash up front for fees and registration.

"A red flag pops up in my mind and says I'm not sure if I should do this,” Beninati says.

According to the Better Business Bureau, you shouldn't.  Whether it is data entry, taking surveys, or home assembly jobs, the BBB says you shouldn't pay money to make money.

A second red flag should go up if the company isn't clear on how you'll earn money.

Red flag number three: Is there an approval prior before you get paid? The BBB says consumers will sign up to assemble products at home, do the work but get no approval and therefore no money.

If you do decide to spend money to start a job, is there a return policy? Are you guaranteed to get your money back?

And red flag number five: Be leery of calling jobs with a 900 number because you're already spending money right off the bat.

You can also check and see if the Better Business Bureau has given that business its’ seal of approval.

And remember, anything that seems too good to be true, usually is.
