TEMPLE TERRACE, FL -- There were some scary moments for a Temple terrace woman early Tuesday morning when she was approached by a man who said he was a police officer.
21-year-old Leah Simmerman said was she was being followed as she tried to pull into her home's parking lot around 3 a.m., according to a police statement.
She decided not to stop and drove around the block.
When the driver continued to follow her, she called 911 and pulled into another parking space in the Raintree subdivision.
She later told officers the man inside the car got out and told her to roll down her car window.
"It was very bizarre to see a 'cop' in shorts and a t-shirt, but you never know," Simmerman said.
When she refused to comply, the man told her he was a police officer. She then rolled down her window slightly. He asked what she was doing there. She told him she lived in the area.
A Temple Terrace Police dispatcher, who remained on the call with the woman, told her to ask to see the man's badge. He said he left his badge in his vehicle, an older Chevy Trail Blazer. He went back to his car and drove away, according to police.
Detectives caught up with Noah Miller before he could leave the area.
He was charged with impersonating a police officer and false imprisonment.
Inside the car, police found a metal baton, folding knife, handcuffs, a black BB pistol, a flashlight and a bullet proof vest.
