PALMETTO, FL -- Someone must be planning one heck of a July 4th barbecue.

The Manatee Sheriff's Office says someone stole a semi-truck carrying $400,000 worth of beef off a hotel parking lot as the driver was checking in.

John Lord, 47, said he left his truck unlocked as he checked-in at the Ramada Limited at 5218 17th Street around 2 pm.

When he came back out to the parking lot about 15 minutes, the truck, along with the refrigerated trailer containing the beef, was gone, Lord said.

Detectives say there were no witnesses and the theft was not captured on any surveillance video.

The truck is owned by John Christner Trucking of Sapula, Oklahoma.
