TAMPA, FL -- The advisories from the National Hurricane Center are always the same... to start:
"A broad area of low pressure over the Southwestern Caribbean Sea is producing a large area of cloudiness and thunderstorms.
This system has the potential for slow development as it drifts northward during the next few days. There is a low chance of this system becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours."
Looks pretty innocuous, right? Well, the position of the storm at this point in time is of great concern to us here in the Bay area, because if this northward drift continues, the storm path could "shoot the gap" between the Yucatan peninsula and the western tip of Cuba and put the storm into the Gulf of Mexico, with greater potential to hit the west coast of Florida.
It is still way to early to see if this will play out, but we'll be monitoring every element of this storm with updates on air and on line as needed.
