HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL -- Hillsborough County Detectives have arrested a Valrico man for an attempted bank robbery.

The Sheriff's Office says a man walked into the Washington Mutual Bank on State Road 60 around 3:00pm on Wednesday and presented a teller with a note demanding money.

When the teller did not comply, the suspect demanded the teller's wallet which the teller did not give up. The suspect left the bank and got on a silver mountain bike and pedaled away.

Detectives searched the area and developed a possible name of the suspect. Witnesses and the teller identified the suspect in a photograph, and he was arrested at his home around 7:00pm.

Robert Nelson Thomas of Valrico has been charged with attempted bank robbery and attempted strong armed robbery.
