TAMPA, FL -  The University of Tampa's student newspaper reports that the school will begin offering health insurance and other benefits for homosexual couples. This comes just a week after Hillsborough County refused to even discuss the issue in a 5-2 vote.

The Minaret Online cites an email sent to faculty and staff explaining that the same sex domestic partnership benefits will begin April 1st.  The benefits do not extend to heterosexual domestic partnerships because they are legally able to marry in Florida.

The paper quotes Matt Gould, president of the Gay Lesbian Transgender Straight Bisexual Alliance, a UT student group who says “I think it’s great that UT is implementing [benefits], but I think it’s wrong that the entire county won’t.”
