This summer was full of blockbuster movies; Transformers, Star Trek, and of course, Harry Potter.

All of these movies have characters that make great costumes.

Dress up as Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, or Megatron from Transformers and you are sure to be easily recognized.

When it comes to Star Trek, you can go as simple as James T. Kirk or Spock or you can go for full-on Klingon or Romulan.

If you go for Spock, make sure you have the pointy ears and know how to give the Vulcan salute.

Your Harry Potter-themed costume can be as elaborate as you want it to be. You can use a graduation gown for your "robe", but make sure to accessorize with the appropriate house colors and logo.

Craft a wand or buy one from a costume shop. Grab a broom if your costume calls for it. Get a group of friends together to be different characters and you can even organize a makeshift game of Quidditch.

Political Costumes

If you've ever seen the movie Point Break, then you know that political candidates make some of the best costumes around.

Since Halloween of 2008, John McCain lost the election, President Obama was sworn into office, Sarah Palin resigned, Hilary Clinton became Secretary of State, and George W. Bush has largely stayed out of the limelight.

Sarah Palin's makes for an easy costume. Grab a red business suit, put your hair in a bun, grab some "Sarah Palin glasses" and you're ready to go. Make sure you practice the accent for the complete effect.

If you're going as President Obama, grab a suit and this Obama mask and you'll be ready to give your presidential address to willing party-goers.

For Florida residents, a Governor Charlie Crist costume would be easily recognized. A suit, a generous layer of spray tan and some white hair dye will complete this costume.

Props, figures of speech, and outfits are all your choice.

If you're looking to win the vote for best costume, make sure you prepare your election speech.

If you've got any great costume ideas, be sure to let us know!
