Halloween is almost here so now it's time to figure out just how you're going to stand out from the crowd.
As usual, the media tend to stoke the trends. Being clever is another matter entirely.
We put on our costume-hunting hats and went searching for the top Halloween-wear of 2009.
The selections are many, but the trick is finding that one outfit that fits your personal style.
It should be an easy decision. After all, the point is to entertain and maybe even make a few people laugh. You might even win a costume contest.
So who, or what, should you dress up as for Halloween 2009?
Check out our list below and find out:
Kate Gosselin
Jon and Kate Gosselin have been the talk of entertainment junkies for most of 2009.
While the big story was Kate splitting from her husband, she has caused quite a buzz with something not usually focused on during the show: her hair.
Ever since allegations of Jon's infidelity forced the couple into the spotlight, Kate's hairdo has been attacked by critics and requested by moms on the go.
Now, you can have the famous mother's "reverse mullet" hairstyle without visiting your hairdresser. BuyCostumes.com has a
Kate Gosselin wig up for the low price of $12.99.
Put it on and you'll be ready for your own reality series, or just trick-or-treating (and maybe scaring a couple of folks along the way).
You can watch an episode of her reality show or catch a picture of her in a magazine to get ideas for the wardrobe, but anything involving solid colored shirts, plaid shorts and flip-flops will suffice.
BONUS: Volunteer to take your children's friends trick-or-treating so that you too can experience keeping track of 8 children for an evening.
Michael Jackson
The King of Pop passed away in June and costumes commemorating him are sure to be popular.
You could spend your money on a costume rental, but making your own is always more fun and cost-effective. Just head on over to your local thrift store and you can find most of the elements you'd need.
Jackson's broad range of styles gives you plenty of options to work with.
You can go with the red leather jacket look from "Thriller", or you could pull off the tuxedo with short pants and huge bow-tie from "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough."
Another great pick is the white v-neck undershirt and black pants combination from the "Black or White" music video.
Most costumes can be enhanced with a
fedora and/or a glove. Sequins are optional. Dance moves are not.
Make sure you get a wig matching the hair style that goes with the style you choose.
Shamon!
