TAMPA, FL -- The Roy Jenkins and Williams Park pools were ordered shut down after failing to meet new federal regulations requiring anti-entrapment devices in the filtration units.  The measure is supposed to help reduce the number of childhood swimming pool drownings.

The two pools would require extensive upgrades to the filtration system, plumbing and pipes.  The City of Tampa's budget has no funding for the repairs so authorities opted to close the pools for now.

Ten other city pools are in compliance and are open for the summer.

The city is conducting a feasibility study regarding the recreational areas including the Jenkins Pool on Davis Islands and the Interbay Pool is closed as the city works to bring it into compliance considering existing budget shortages.

Questions about the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department can be director to 813-274-8615 or online at www.tampagov.net/parksandrec
