TAMPA, FL -- A Tampa man is in jail after detectives say he held an ex-girlfriend for 2 days and repeatedly raped her.
According to Tampa Police, 32-year-old Ernest Vereen Jr. kidnapped the 22-year-old woman after the two had an argument and held her captive for 2 days. During that time investigators say he sexually assaulted and beat her multiple times.
She was able to escape Tuesday night and made it to BP Gas station at 1310 E. Busch Boulevard where she called police. The woman was checked out by paramedics there before she was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital.
Detectives and US Marshalls tracked down Vereen after getting a tip to his location. He was arrested at 3 pm at the corner of Willow Avenue and Delaware Street.
He is charged with three counts of sexual battery, kidnapping, and aggravated battery and faces a judge Friday morning.
